New Office And New Focus On Blog Writing

Contents

It’s me, Scott Yates, writing.

I feel like I need to announce that. In the old days of BlogMutt I did all the blog writing, then I started using BlogMutt writers, and now we have a great mix of posts from BlogMutt writers, BlogMutt staff, and the occasional hodge-podge.

But this is me.

I put myself down to write for today because we are finishing our first week in our new office. It’s the fourth office in BlogMutt history, but in some ways it feels like this was the biggest move. Before this one, our offices were (in this order):

  1. A tiny room upstairs from an Irish pub. We moved in just before St. Patrick’s Day and the Irish step dancers made the whole building shake.
  2. An office in an old newspaper building, which made for nice nostalgia as we are in the words business. We had to move out because a wrecking ball tore down the building. Just before it came down, part of the building was used as the set for a horror film. It needed no extra decoration to appear scary, foreboding, and dangerous.
  3. A quaint office upstairs from another bar, but this one was right on Boulder’s Pearl Street Mall. As any tourist will tell you, it’s a lovely mall full of eccentric performers. Our office had beautiful, historic windows that kept out absolutely none of the noise of those eccentric performers.

Now we’re in an office that is not historic, nor quaint or charming, and we love it so much.

This was the view out the office window on our first morning:

And because we are no longer in a historic building, we enjoyed the view even more because we have heat that works!

As I write this, four days later, the temperature is supposed to climb to the 80s, so the snow is all melted, but we’ll be able to keep working just fine because the AC also works.

The question you may quickly be asking yourself is this:

Why do I care?

It’s a fair question, and I’ll answer it soon. Thank you for giving me the chance to ramble on. I’m just so happy working in my climate-controlled office with a nice view that I’m a little giddy.

OK, here’s why you should care.

The reason is simple. The reason is that BlogMutt is working.

If you are a writer, you want to know that before you invest a bunch of time into a writing platform that the business is solid, that it has the ability to attract lots of clients, and that there will be lots of great work available to you. You also want to know that you will be treated fairly and humanely.

If you run a business, you want to know that you are using a stable company to provide such a crucial service as content generation for your marketing efforts.

If you run an agency, you want to know that your service provider understands your unique needs, and has the capacity to handle really large volumes of work.

Now, we probably could do all that from an office upstairs from a pub that bounces around on St. Patty’s Day, but I think that from this office we’ll be able to focus quite a bit better.

That focus, by the way, is on you. Whether that “you” is a writer, business, or agency.

All 10 of us on staff (11 on Monday, 12 in another week) are all really clear about what BlogMutt is.

It’s a place that makes it possible for you to do your best work.

Let’s look again at our three constituencies:

If you are a writer, you can write in a safe place and not have to worry about searching around for clients or bothering with invoicing, etc. You can focus on doing what you do best — writing.

If you run a business, you can focus on your business and not be forced to sit in front of a blank blog window. Your business is not writing blogs, so if you are spending time writing, you aren’t doing what you do best. With BlogMutt, you can do your best work.

And if you run an agency, the thing you are good at is coming up with the best strategy for your clients. You are probably a great writer, but writing blog posts isn’t the best use of your time. With BlogMutt, you get the freedom to do your best work.

This new office allows us to focus on you, and on getting your needs met.

An individual blog post is not all that important. (Even this one, if I’m forced to admit it.) What’s important with this blog (and with every other blog) is that it’s getting done week after week, month after month. The long term… that’s when there’s a great payoff with blogging.

We’re very pleased to be here, and ready to serve you for that long term.
